Max Prince is the star of a popular comedy-variety series that's a major hit on the East Coast circa 1953, but network execs insist it's too sophisticated for the Midwest. With tensions of producing a top-quality comedy each week and being pestered about ratings, Prince is beginning to unravel. The play is a portrait of comic geniuses who admit they have little or no life outside of their gag-writing sessions and is notable for an insider's book of personalities and processes of TV comedy writing and for its reflection of political and social undercurrents or its time, in particular the rise of Joseph McCarthy, relationships between various (European) American ethnicities, and attitudes toward women.
All evening performances begin at 7:30 PM.
Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 PM.
